Biomes, Habitats, Ecosystems oh my! When it comes to learning about nature, and all of its fascinating and intricate parts, you may find it helpful to have a few informative books on hand for whenever you need to look up the definition of a secondary consumer, or refresh your memory of the rock cycle. (Because I personally do not remember everything I learned in high school science). Not only are these books informative, but they are simply beautiful to look at also. We love to snuggle up on the couch with any one of these books and just get lost in all of the amazing things to discover. They all offer a wide range of information that should be more than enough to get your child started on his or her junior naturalist journey. Happy Learning!

Field Guides

If I could encourage you to purchase any nature inspired book for your home, I would urge start with a Field Guide specific to the area that you live in! It can be fun to take it along with you on an outdoor adventure to help identify the plants and animals you see along the way.

1. Peterson Field Guides

There are so many amazing ones to choose from, and they are usually quite specific to different parts of the country and or continent. So just make sure you choose one that is relevant to the area that you live in.

  1. Julia Rothman Anatomy Books - We love these books so much! The illustrations are wonderful and there is so much useful information.

  2. Illustrated Field Guides by Evelyn Mervine, Niko Summers, and Alice Sun

  3. New York Botanical Garden Trees of North America Pocket Guide

  4. Smithsonian Handbook of Interesting Insects

  5. An Anthology of Rocks by Devin Dennie

    Reference + Encyclopedia Style Books

  6. Welcome to the Museum Series

These Books are both visually stunning and informative, perfect to leave out on your coffee table. That is if you dont have toddlers. They are a little on the pricey side but I think they are worth it. We have several, and reference them daily.

  7. World of Wonder Amazing Nature

This Book covers everything from Photosynthesis, Pollination, Biomes

    to the diversity of ecosystems.

  8. Our Planet - The one place we all call home.

  9. Outside your Window - A first Book of Nature by Nicola Davies

  10. Nature All Around Series

  11. A Golden Guide from St. Martins Press
